HOW TO GET A LIBRARY CARD

Persons living in the Saranac Clarksville District Library service area may apply for SCDL library card.  The service area includes: Boston Township, Campbell Township, Village of Clarksville, Village of Saranac, a portion of Berlin Township and Saranac Community School District (except for the portion located in Easton Township. Easton Township is 100% serviced by Ionia Community Library).

To obtain a virtual library card now, please click this link and fill out the form.  You will receive an email with your card number, if accepted.  If you are declined, please contact the library during open hours.  You may have to come into the library with the below documentation:

Adult Applicants must:  Present a valid Michigan Driver's License, Michigan Identification Card, or Resident Alien Card documenting identity and current street address.

If the address on the proof of identification described above is not currently valid, one of the following documents can be used as proof of residence:

  • Utility bill in the applicant’s name with current address received in the past two months.
  • Voter’s registration in the applicant’s name with current address
  • Printed checks in the applicant’s name with current address
  • Hospitalization or insurance card in the applicant’s name with current address
  • Recent local property tax bill in the applicant’s name with current address.

    (If applicant does not have Michigan Driver's License or ID card to verify photographic identification a Military ID, employment ID, school ID, out-of-state driver's license, or passport may be used along with one of the above document to verify residence.)

Juvenile Applicants (Minors under the age of 18)

  • Juveniles may apply for a library card but must have a parent, legal guardian or grandparent as a co-signer. The parent/legal guardian/grandparent determines when his/her child is ready for the responsibility of a library card.
  • The parent/legal guardian/grandparent accepts all responsibility for the use of the card and any fines or fees incurred on the minor's card.
  • The parent/legal guardian/grandparent must live within the Saranac and Clarksville Libraries service area and must have or apply for a library card.
  • If the parent/legal guardian/grandparent has a library card, the library account must be in good standing.
  • Parent/legal guardian/grandparent cosigner must be present at the time of application and issue. Applications may not be taken home.

Juvenile Student Card Applicant
Minors who reside in the library service area or attend Saranac Jr./Sr. High school may apply for a student card by presenting a student id at the circulation desk, or photographic identification along with a document verifying residence . A student card does not require a co-signer and the following apply to a student card applicant and registration.

  • The card will allow student access to all of the Saranac/Clarksville libraries electronic services.
  • one physical item  within Saranac/Clarksville library's collection may be checked out at a time.
  • Interlibrary loan privileges are not available with a student card
  • Student cards are good for three (3) years and can be renewed if student is still attending Saranac Community Schools or still lives in the library service area.
  • A student card may be upgraded to a full-service card if the above co-signer requirements are met under juvenile applicant registrations.

Person residing outside the Saranac or Clarksville service area should make application for a library card at their home library.

LOST OR DAMAGED LIBRARY CARD

The fee for a lost or damaged card is $2.00.  All charges must be paid in full before a new card will be issued.

BORROWING LIMITS

You may borrow material from any Lakeland Library Cooperative member library. 

PLACING HOLDS

Holds can be placed by logging in to "My Account" on the card catalog.  See library staff for current hold limits.  Holds must be picked up at your home library.

RENEWING YOUR BORROWED ITEMS

Library material may be eligible for automatic renewal up to two (2) times.  Some library material is not eligible for renewal. The library has several services to provide you current status of your library material.  To sign up for these services see "your library account", library staff or call the automated renewal line to check on your account status.

LIBRARY FINES

Library fines are accrued at $0.15 per day overdue on books, magazines, audiobooks, and sound recordings.  Library fines on dvd's are accrued at $1.00 per day overdue.
